Psalm 126 opens with the line: “When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dream.” What does it look like to live as those who dream? The prophets, the psalmists, John the Baptist, Mary, Elizabeth, Joseph, Simeon, Anna, the shepherds and the Magi—they were all dreamers. They received, discovered, and responded to God’s dreams for the world. In Advent, we step into the mystery and awe of God’s dreams and pray they shape our reality.

These resources are for the dreamers in all of us—those who dream of a deeper connection with God and those who dream of a better world. They’re for those who dream of comfort and for those who have given up on their dreams. They’re for those whose dreams have been crushed and for those who show us that dreams take time. Join us this Advent as we dream alongside prophets and angels, Mary and the Magi. Join us as we seek and sow God’s dreams for our world.

“Mary gazes off beyond the frame, dreaming of the future while simultaneously anchoring herself in this priceless moment. As she holds Jesus, Joseph holds Mary—delighting in the birth of their holy son, imagining the joyful personality that has just changed their lives and the world, forever. Doves dance through the fabric of Mary’s dress, representing the unexpected, exciting, and empowering presence of the Holy Spirit.”
—Hannah Garrity, banner design artist and Founding Creative Partner of SA

(Individual Price: $20)

We created our Those Who Dream star words to build on the contemporary tradition of passing out intention words on Epiphany—a tradition growing in popularity amongst many Protestant churches. Inspired by the Magi following the star to Jesus, selecting a star word to meditate on throughout the new year can deepen your self-reflection and prayer practices. To best serve your needs, we’ve provided multiple formats for printing and distributing the star words to your congregation, along with an accompanying liturgy for Epiphany Sunday. We’ve also provided ideas for how you might use the star words as a daily, child-friendly devotional throughout the season of Advent if you prefer to use them in that way. We’ve included 150 star words—a number of which are non-English words.

advent_poems_christmas_worship.jpeg

(Individual Price: $12)

This collection of 10 poetic prayers explores the Those Who Dream weekly sub-themes in light of the RCL (Year B) scriptures for Advent–Epiphany. Honest and intimate, these poems offer meditations that might become prayers of your own.

To carry a dream
Is to plant trees in old age,
To be a part of a church,
That is human and frayed.
To carry a dream is foolish and wild.
It’s the faith of a child,
Wishing on stars.
But to carry a dream is also hopeful and wise
The faith of our elders,
Saying God will provide.

May they say
We are foolish and unwise,
And may we continue to dream;
May hope keep us alive.

—Sarah Are, from “To Carry a Dream”

The many

Music Collective

The Many is an indie, intentionally diverse music collective from Chicago singing music of faith and doubt, hope and lament. The lead singers in The Many—Darren Calhoun, Leslie Michele, and singer/songwriter Hannah Rand—as well as writer Lenora Rand and musician/producer Gary Rand, come together around their shared love of music and commitment to honest expressions of faith, peace-making, economic and racial justice, and LGBTQ+ inclusion. The Many offer songs made for reflection, for protest, for healing, and worship. They are songs made for singing with each other, in churches, in living rooms, in basements, and in bars. . . anywhere and everywhere, in spirit and in truth. With lyrics born from scriptures, from headlines, and from their own experiences, this is not head-in-the-clouds “worship music.” These are not songs about a God who only loves some of us. These are feet-on-the-ground, heart-in-hands, scars-revealed, wild and holy songs of resistance and reconciliation and restoration. This unique group of musicians reminds us over and over again that we aren’t alone, that God so loves every one of us, and we all belong here. themanyarehere.com

Plural guild

Liturgical Collective

The Plural Guild came together to create and curate music, poems, prayer, visual art, liturgy, experiences and community that embrace questions and doubts, as well as faith. To make work that can be used in worship gatherings that’s truly inclusive and helps everyone feel like they belong. That has eyes wide open to the pain of the world. That speaks of a God who came to this earth in Jesus to show us the way to love and live fully alive lives. Work that invites participation versus performance. For anyone…and everyone…who longs for a more loving, just, open, and abundant world. The Plural Guild is a collective led by the husband and wife team, Lenora and Gary Rand, as well as the members of The Many. pluralguild.com
