From the Artist:
“For each of these pieces, I began by blocking in color in acrylic, then drew the scene directly in ink, exposing the lighter marks of my initial sketch layers. The drawings, like these stories, are raw and unrefined. Each scene places your eye in the midst of the action, inviting you to imagine yourself in the narrative. Hints of gold symbolize where God might be active in the story.
In this scene, we join Sarah inside the tent, but the exact moment in the narrative remains illusive. Have the three men just arrived, the shadows of their silhouettes still lingering on the horizon? Or are they eating and enjoying Abraham’s hospitality under the oaks of Mamre? Or is Sarah hearing that she will bear a son? The answer is yes to all. Gold spreads abundantly across the land, symbolizing how radical hospitality transforms barrenness into new life.”
