Make Room
Tune: ST. LOUIS (“O Little Town of Bethlehem”)
Text: Anna Strickland, 2023
Music: Lewis H. Redner (1868)
Alone within our siloed hearts
The walls are closing in
A cozy home where all is known
Familiar as a friend
But through the cracks and windows
The starlight finds a way
To break into our grief and gloom
And fill it bright as day
In cluttered minds we hoard our thoughts
Though anxious or untrue
Our past mistakes, our recent aches
Are framed and left in view
The Spirit’s winds are raging
To blow it all away
To make more space for love and grace
We’ll find with each new day
When fear and anger lead to walls
Around our calloused souls
Where wounds and scars have made us hard
And pressed us for control
Expansive Christ, expand us
To ever make more room
Crack souls apart and sprout our hearts
So hardened seeds can bloom
