FROM THE ARTIST:
This painting explores the juxtaposition of the violence of the cross with the joy of resurrection. A weapon of terror becomes a symbol of new life. Joy defies death. As morning comes, Mary’s mourning turns into awe. In Defiant Joy, I hope you see what you need to see—light emerging from shadows, a window or a doorway providing a way forward, an angel spreading her wings. I hope you feel the type of joy that defies anything that tries to limit the power of God’s love.
