Have you ever heard of a Lenten calendar? We hadn’t either, so we decided to create one. This year, our Lenten Coloring Calendar is a bit simplified. Instead of 40 shapes to color in each day, we’ve designed a calendar with shapes to color each week of Lent, beginning with the week of Ash Wednesday and continuing through Easter Sunday.
Instead of giving up ice cream or facebook (though good for you if you do), perhaps you might commit to a weekly rhythm of reading, reflecting, and creating—an active spiritual practice inviting you to practice both cultivating and letting go.
To accompany the Coloring Calendar, our Devotional Guide Booklet offers you weekly scripture, written reflections, poetry prayers, and journaling prompts. Each week, we hope you will read the lectionary scripture text, finding and coloring in the shape on the Calendar inspired by that text, and reflecting on the artist’s commentary. The poetry prayers and journaling prompts invite you to slow down, allowing the themes for the week to seep into your bones and heart.
We hope you will carve out space each week to complete the readings, coloring, and journaling at your own pace. May this weekly rhythm help you invite God into your journey of planting and pruning, of cultivating and letting go.
NEW REVISED VERSION: This file has been revised so that it no longer includes dates from 2019. All dates have been removed so that you can use this devo for any season. We encourage you to start it on Ash Wednesday and continue weekly through Easter!
