A collection of over 40 liturgies, this resource provides fresh language for worship inspired by the Christmas narrative and our Advent theme, From Generation to Generation. For each Sunday in Advent, Christmas Eve, and Epiphany, we provide a Candle Lighting Liturgy, Call to Confession, Prayer of Confession, Words of Forgiveness, Prayer for Illumination, Affirmation of Faith, and Prayer of the People. We’ve also included liturgy for Holy Communion on Christmas Eve and a Benediction for the entire series. We hope you will copy/paste or adapt these prayers for your corporate worship (with credit).
Liturgy written by Rev. Sarah (Are) Speed.
DOWNLOAD INCLUDES:
30 pg PDF Words for Worship document. Liturgy is inspired by the Christmas narrative and our From Generation to Generation… Advent theme and weekly sub-themes. For each Sunday in Advent, as well as Christmas Eve and Epiphany*, we provide:
Candle Lighting Liturgy for the Advent Wreath
Call to Confession
Prayer of Confession
Words of Forgiveness
Prayer for Illumination
Affirmation of Faith
Invitation to the Table (for Christmas Eve only)
Prayer of the People
Benediction (for the series)
*Note: In the year these resources were created and released (2022), Christmas Eve falls on a Saturday, Christmas Day falls on a Sunday, and New Year's Day is the Sunday after. Due to how this schedule may impact your worship and attendance, we have crafted a special creative liturgy for Christmastide, rather than including liturgy for those Sundays in this Words for Worship resource. A full order of worship for Christmas (with leadership notes) is included as an individual component in our From Generation to Generation... bundle, available for individual purchase here. Additional communion liturgy for Epiphany Sunday is included in our Star Words resource, part of our From Generation to Generation... bundle or available for individual purchase here.
EXCERPT:
A Benediction for the Series
As you leave this place, may you go knowing that
from generation to generation,
we have been claimed and loved.
From generation to generation,
God has been by our side.
From generation to generation,
we are not alone.
The God of yesterday and the God of tomorrow
knows you by name, loves you, and calls you forth,
saying, “Go be the person you are called to be,
love wildly, do justice, and come back soon.”
May it be so. Amen.
