Some of the best conversations start with good questions—questions we’ve been meaning to ask, questions that keep us curious, and questions that lead us deeper into courage and connection. These conversation cards are designed to help you tell your story, share your pain, care for one another, and dream about a new way forward.
There are a total of 48 questions included, 12 for each of the four weeks in our I’ve been meaning to ask… worship series. We also include a curriculum for how you might structure small group discussions using these cards. In your conversations, we hope you’ll bring your full self. We hope you’ll share courageously and vulnerably. We hope you’ll listen and hold space. Mostly, we hope you will find connection and keep the conversation going.
DOWNLOAD INCLUDES (2 FILES):
Print-ready PDF of the conversation cards for printing in full color on thirteen 8.5x11 sheets of card stock (double-sided). Alternatively, you can print them on this perforated paper so you can easily tear the sheets into cards. Cut the the sheets into fifty-two 4.25”x5.5” cards.
PDF Conversation and listening guide outlining a structure for using the conversation cards in small groups.
PRINTING INFO:
Download includes a full color PDF. Either print the daily devotional cards on 8.5x11 sheets of card stock to cut in quarters, or print them on this perforated paper so you can easily tear the sheets into cards. Print the PDF under portrait orientation, double-sided, and choose "long edge to long edge," or "flip to long edge," for the correct layout. When printed double-sided, there are thirteen sheets with four cards per sheet. Cut the sheets into fifty-two 4.25”x5.5” cards (48 question cards + 4 introductory cards) and order them in the following way: cover card, introduction card, norms card, color key card, “Where are you from?” cards (tan), “Where does it hurt?” cards (orange), “What do you need?” cards (teal), “Where do we go from here?” cards (gold). The questions within each week do not need to be in any particular order.
POSSIBLE WAYS TO USE THESE CARDS:
Use one or more questions in worship as a time to “turn and talk” or respond in the chat (if worshiping online).
Make a few sets of conversation cards to leave near outdoor seating around your church campus. For durability, we suggest laminating the cards, hole punching the top left corner of each card, and binding them using metal book rings.
Follow the included conversation & listening guide to structure an hour of study and fellowship with small groups. You’ll need one set of cards per every 3-4 people.
Send a set of conversation cards home with each family to enrich conversations around the dinner table.
Use the questions in the conversation cards to interview church members, especially long-time members or older members, and create videos to share their stories with your congregation.
Include the questions (either as text or as a screenshot) in a church newsletter, blog, social media, or weekly email and invite church members to respond via email or in the comments.
Use the conversation cards to reflect as a congregation on where your church is from (history), where it hurts (current challenges), what you need (next steps), and where you go from here (vision for the future).
