We all have a money story,
whether we recognize it or not. These resources invite us to discover and tell our money stories in light of God’s money story of liberation and love. This series encourages us to transform our stewardship practices into more full expressions of who we are and what we believe.
Our Money Story is intentionally direct—it invites us to name exactly what we’re talking about and not skirt around it. Too often, we avoid talking about money with transparency and vulnerability. It’s time we reframe this. Money and possessions are one of the most common topics in scripture, and Jesus talked about money more than faith and prayer. Our money story, therefore, is a spiritual story.
The best stories captivate and transform us—they change how we live. This stewardship season, we invite you to remember, release, reimagine, and restore your money stories so that we can write the one God is begging us to live into.
The core values underlying these resources:
Art and stewardship belong together
Stewardship is an ongoing spiritual practice that helps individuals and communities become more whole
Our stories matter—they shape what we believe and how we act
Stewardship is crucial to our spiritual health—especially in times of crisis or economic recession
We worship a God of enough who calls us to work for equity and enough for all

And I am just starting to see
That this life is a river, a holy stream.
And if life is a river then God is the sky,
Touching everything at once and inviting us to try
Letting go of the raft, to float on our backs,
So that we and God can be eye to eye—
A lifetime of baptism and nothing but sky.
But first, you have to release.
—Sarah Are, excerpt from, “Release | But First”

This community art project is designed to help you tangibly mark your progress throughout your stewardship series. Following our mandala template and guide, progressively build your own community mosaic throughout your stewardship series. Each week of your stewardship series, you have the option to integrate tangible elements into your worship—these items can later be added to the mandala mosaic with a small group. You could easily do this with a Sunday school group, a youth group, a children’s group, or a small group of adults. The imagery within the rings of the mandala correspond to the scriptures in our series.
