A new worship series for Advent

coming August 2026!

Every Advent, we light candles and speak of hope. We wait for the good news that God is born. We prepare with pageants and presents. Yet, in the midst of our busy waiting, we know all too well that the world is not as it should be. Wars rage on, violence persists, and empires orchestrate new horrors each day. In the shadows of the deepest night, we may feel like we are trudging aimlessly through the dark. Along the way, we may be tempted by hopelessness and despair. With restless souls, we long for the sun to break over the horizon. We yearn for a new day, a new way, a world made new.

This Advent, we turn to our forebears in faith to find faithful action steps. Like the Psalmist, we will cry out for restoration and peace. Like John the Baptist, we will testify to the light. Like Mary, we will take courage. And like the Magi, we will choose joy in the unfolding journey. With each small step, we will keep walking, trusting that God joins us in the work of Advent.

Just as surely as the sun rises, God’s steadfast love and mercy are made new every morning. As we move toward the horizon, may righteousness make a path for our steps. May courage guide the work of our hands. May joy dance from our mouths. In this holy season, let us keep walking, singing, resisting, and rejoicing—with eyes and hearts ready for dawn.
