Cultivating & Letting Go Lent—Making the Most of your Resources!

Making the most of your lenten resources

Lent_Bundle_Patrons_Only_cover.jpg

You’ve purchased our Lenten Bundle of resources or perhaps a few of the individual resources and you’re excited to put them into practice. But then you realize that the bundle is bursting with ELEVEN out-of-the box resources that not everyone in your community may be familiar with, and new questions are emerging, such as:

How do we use a worship film if we don’t utilize screens in worship?

What’s visio divina and how do we use the visual art to lead a visio divina contemplative practice?

How do I make graphics to advertise the season if I don’t have photoshop?

How the heck do I print the devotional?

How could I use poetry in and beyond worship?

All of these are very valid questions, especially if you’re new around here. Below we’ve outlined each resource and offered ideas for how to put it to use. We hope you can scroll through and find what you need!

PS: If you are a bundle patron, don’t forget that you access your files on a password-protected page. That page also has this information in addition to the resource files you need!

WHAT IT IS:

A 2-part devotional resource featuring a large Coloring Calendar with shapes to color in each week of Lent. The shapes hold imagery inspired by weekly scripture (from the lectionary, Lent Year C). To accompany the Coloring Calendar, our Devotional Guide Booklet offers you weekly scripture, written reflections, poetry prayers, and journaling prompts.

HOW TO USE IT:

  • Print the devotional booklets & coloring calendars and distribute copies to members in your community to use at home throughout Lent.

  • Encourage families to do it together! There are elements (reading scripture, coloring, reading poetry, journaling) that parents can do with their children and youth.

  • Invite members to bring their devos to worship, Sunday School, small groups, etc. to share their reflections with one another.

  • After Easter morning, when all of the coloring calendars are full of color, take a group picture of members holding their calendars or display the finished calendars together to see how everyone colored them in.

PRINTING INFO:

  • While we include an 11x17 size of the Coloring Calendar, you may wish to print the calendar at 18x24 or larger. You can print the calendar as a black and white engineering print/blueprint at Staples for the following rates:

  • Print the Devotional Guide in b/w on 8.5x11 sheets to fold into an 8.5 x 5.5 booklet. Print the PDF under landscape orientation, double-sided, and choose "short edge to short edge," "flip to short edge," or "head to head" for the correct layout. The PDF is arranged so that you can easily fold the pages in half, staple or bind them down the middle, and voila! You have a beautiful devotional to guide you through Lent.

    • If you are interested in printing this devotional for your church or community (see other licensing options below), here are printing cost estimates for printing the Devotional Guide via Staples:

      1 copy—$3.15
      25 copies—$71.25
      50 copies—$120
      100 copies—$210
      200 copies—$180

Throughout Lent, create beautiful sanctuary art to install on Easter Sunday. These designs by Hannah Garrity feature blooming lilies with hints of imagery from the days after Jesus’ resurrection—crucified hands, breaking bread, fish, the road to Emmaus.

HOW TO USE IT:

  • Project and trace the designs onto two or three paper or canvas banners to invite members to paint the imagery.

  • Project, trace, and cut the designs into two or three paper lace banners.

MATERIALS/INSTRUCTIONAL INFO:

  • If you wish to create paper lace banners, you'll want to purchase a roll of Savage Seamless Backdrop paper that's 53" wide HERE.

  • Watch this TUTORIAL VIDEO to walk you through the steps. Please note: This video shows the process of creating our Advent 2016 designs and says to create the banners 8.5’ x 2.5’. Disregard that information and follow the measurements in the written instructions.

WHAT IT IS:

A collection of 9 hand-drawn coloring posters inspired by RCL texts for Lent Year C. These coloring posters are great for creating easy and meaningful community art.

HOW TO USE IT:

  • Print the designs as 8.5x11 coloring sheets to include in your bulletin for members to color during worship as a way to stay active and attentive.

  • Print the designs as 24x36 coloring posters to create a "prayground" for children to color and create during worship (allowing their wiggles and whispers to move with the Spirit in worship).

  • Print the designs as 24x36 coloring posters for members of all ages to color together during an intergenerational event, coffee hour, or Sunday school.

  • Print the designs as 11x17 coloring posters for your youth group to color in. Mount, frame, and display their completed pieces. Invite youth to write short reflections about the art and how it relates to the scripture.

  • Use the accompanying visio divina lesson to guide a small group through a contemplative bible study using the coloring poster visuals. You could invite participants to color in the imagery as part of the study.

PRINTING INFO:

We recommend printing large posters for groups wanting to color them together. You can print the posters as black and white engineering prints or blueprints at Staples for the following rates:

  • 18"x24" for $1.79/each
